What was Stampede.It?

stampede.it logoStampede. It was a digital deals site that would bring group buying power to digital products like games, apps and ebooks. I had the pleasure of being the tech lead for the startup. It was a lot of fun working with great people and I learned a lot in the process.

A good buddy of mine, Conrad Barrett @conradd, and his friend, Justin Groden @justingroden, came to me with the idea that why wanted to have built. I thought the idea had potential so happily hopped on board.

All my work was done remotely while living in Orlando, FL while they were participating in the Syracuse University Student Sandbox in NY. In the end we took first place in the incubator but unfortunately were not able to secure the funding required to really grow the site.

We were able to generate a good amount of buzz and were featured on Mashable, Social News Daily and Tech Cocktail. Thanks to Conrad and Justin we had a pretty active Twitter following @stampedeit and Facebook.

Stampede. It was built using CodeIgniter which is a PHP MVC framework and Bonfire which is a package for CodeIgniter that provides some great base features for rapid development. My work involved coding the design into a working HTML/CSS template and integrating it into the custom solution I had built in CI. I also implemented Facebook connect as well as Paypal payments into the system.

You can learn more about Stampede. It from the blog we had setup. Check out the TechStars application video or the pitch video and some coverage from UNYstartups.

If I had the choice to do it all again I would. I only wish I could go back in time with what I’ve learned over the past 2 years since then!
